BILL NUMBER:S5402

Title of bill

An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to certain fees for fishing and trapping licenses

Purpose

To reduce the price of fishing, trapping, and hunting licenses for citizens who have attained the age of sixty-five.

Summary of provisions

Section one reduces the price of fishing and trapping licenses to five dollars for each license for those who have attained the age of sixty-five. This section will be effective immediately.

Section two reduces the price of fishing, trapping, and hunting licenses to five dollars for each license for those who have attained the age of sixty-five. This section will be effective February 1, 2014.

Justification

Many states surrounding New York offer fishing, trapping, and hunting licenses at a reduced rate to citizens who have attained the age of sixty-five. New York citizens who have attained the age of sixty-five are often retired or soon to be retiring. With limited income, senior citizens should be able to enjoy outdoor activities at a reduced rate.
