BILL NUMBER:S6011

Title of bill

An act authorizing the increase of tax on city taxable income to fund universal pre-kindergarten and after-school programs

Purpose

Funding of pre-kindergarten and after-school programs.

Summary of provisions

Cities of one million or more may increase city taxable income by up to 75% to fund universal pre-kindergarten and after-school programs for students of such city.

Justification

Studies show that students who attend pre-kindergarten and after school programs are less likely to be left backs more likely to graduate and earn a livable wage. Universal Pre-K is necessary to close the achievement gap and translates into the best economic stimulus program by investing in our students.

None.
