BILL NUMBER:S6493

Title of bill

An act to authorize Jaime Laczko to elect to participate in the optional twenty-five year retirement plan for forest rangers in the service of the department of environmental conservation

Purpose

Authorizes Jaime Laczko to elect to participate in the optional 25 year retirement plan for forest rangers

Summary of provisions

Section 1- Authorizes Jaime Laczko to file an application with the State Comptroller to participate in the retirement plan established under section 383-c of the retirement and social security law. The bill further provides that he application must be filed within one year of the effective date of this act.

Section 2- Provides that all past cost associated with implementing the previsions of this act shall be jointly borne by the state of New York and Jamie Laczko.

Section 3- Contains the effective date.

Justification

Forest Ranger Jaime Laczko was placed in the Police and Fire retirement plan 375-H rather than the 383-C plan option. At the time forest rangers were made police officers in 2006 they were given the option to transfer into the Police and Fire Retirement System. Ranger Laczko's intent was to be placed in the 383-C plan which would allow him to retire after 25 years of service.

In addition, there will be an immediate past service cost of $72,800 which would be equally shared by Jaime Laczko and the State of New York as one-time payments. Each party will pay approximately $36,400.

This act shall take effect immediately.
