BILL NUMBER:S6556

Title of bill

An act granting tier I status in the New York state teachers' retirement system to Joanne Ohnmeiss

Purpose or general idea of bill

To allow Joanne Ohnmeiss to be declared a Tier 1 retiree.

Summary of specific provisions

Section 1 states that Joanne Ohnmeiss was employed by Lake Shore School District starting July 1, 1974 but for reasons not ascribable to her own negligence did not become a member until September 1, 1984.

Section 2 states the cost shall be borne by the New York State Teachers' Retirement System.

Section 3 is the effective date.

Justification

Ms. Ohnmeiss was employed by the Lake Shore School District as a teacher's aide and library monitor during 1971 and for periods of years throughout the 1970's. She was never afforded the opportunity to enter the Retirement System. This legislation would correct this inequity.
