BILL NUMBER:S6650

Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating portions of the state highway system as the "Brighton Veterans Memorial Highway", "Henrietta Veterans Memorial Highway", "Rush Veterans Memorial Highway", "Mendon Veterans Memorial Highway", "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway", "Livonia Veterans Memorial Highway", "Canadice Veterans Memorial Highway" and "Springwater Veterans Memorial Highway"

Purpose

To designate portions of the state highway system as the "Brighton Veterans Memorial Highway", "Henrietta Veterans Memorial Highway", "Rush Veterans Memorial Highway", "Mendon Veterans Memorial Highway", "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway", "Livonia Veterans Memorial Highway", "Canadice Veterans Memorial Highway", and "Springwater Veterans Memorial Highway".

Summary of provisions

This legislation amends the highway law, adding the following sections:

Section 344-c, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the City of Rochester and Town of Brighton boundary line to the Brighton and Henrietta town line as the "Brighton Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-d, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Brighton and Henrietta town line to the Henrietta and Rush town line as the "Henrietta Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-e, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Henrietta and Rush town line to the Rush and Mendon town line as the "Rush Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-f, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Rush and Mendon town line to the Monroe and Livingston County line as the "Mendon Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-g, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Monroe and Livingston county line to the Lima and Livonia town line as the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-h, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Lima and Livonia town line to the Livonia and Springwater town line as the "Livonia Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-i, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Livonia and Canadice town line to the Canadice and Springwater town line as the "Canadice Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-j, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Canadice and Springwater town line to the terminus of state route fifteen A at the intersection between state route fifteen

A and state route fifteen as the "Springwater Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 2 provides for the signing and maintenance of these designations, and provides that these designations are of a ceremonial nature and do not change the official name of state route fifteen A.

Section 3 provides that this act shall take effect immediately.

Justification

This designation, along a 34-mile stretch of our state highway system, serves as a small token of appreciation to all of our current and former United States Armed Forces services members, from all eras, including the fallen, the wounded, those unaccounted for and former prisoners of war, in humble recognition of their service, sacrifice and commitment to our Country and the defense of our freedoms.

This highway, linking the municipalities of Brighton, Henrietta, Rush, Mendon, Lima, Livonia, Canadice and Springwater, is a symbolic reminder of the cooperation and camaraderie felt by all American service members, past and present, hailing from Western New York. Resolutions in support of this legislation have been passed by the towns of Brighton, Henrietta, Rush, Mendon, Lima, Livonia, Canadice, and Springwater.
