BILL NUMBER:S6723
Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 105 of the laws of 2009 amending chapter 693 of the laws of 1980 enabling the county of Albany to impose and collect taxes on occupancy of hotel or motel rooms in Albany county relating to revenues received from the collection of hotel or motel occupancy taxes, in relation to the effectiveness thereof
Purpose or general idea of bill
Extends the effectiveness of chapter 312 of the laws of 2012 for two years.
Summary of specific provisions
Amends chapter 312 of 2012, extending the sunset from December 31, 2014 to December 31, 2016.
Justification
Currently, the county of Albany's hotel/motel occupancy tax is slated to sunset on December 31, 2014. In order for the county to continue generating revenue, the sunset must be extended. This ensures the continued promotion of the Capital District and also provides funding for the continuation of the Albany Convention Center and Hotel project.
