BILL NUMBER:S6993
Title of bill
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to the village of Suffern parking authority and repealing title 18 of article 7 of such law relating thereto
Purpose
To abolish the Village of Suffern parking authority.
Summary of provisions
Section 1. Adds a new section 1600-t to title 18 of article 7 of the public authorities law (Village of Suffern Parking Authority) to provide for the termination of the authority by December 31, 2014.
Section 2. Amends section 1600-b of the public authorities law to provide that the board and corporate existence of the Village of Suffern Parking Authority shall continue only to December 31, 2014.
Section 3. Repeals title 18 of article 7 of the public authorities law.
Section 4. Effective date.
Justification
The Suffern Parking Authority was created in 1974 at the request of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Suffern. Since its inception, the Authority has never incurred any bonded indebtedness and there is no bonded indebtedness currently outstanding. Since the functions performed by the parking authority do, in certain respects, overlap with those performed by the Village of Suffern, the Board of Trustees desires to abolish the parking authority. Pursuant to the applicable authorizing legislation, the parking authority's corporate existence is currently set to expire on December 31, 2019.
