BILL NUMBER:S7258
Title of bill
An act to amend the village law, in relation to the application of certain provisions of law relating to non-resident members of the village of Delanson volunteer fire company
Purpose or general idea of bill
Allows the Village of Delanson Volunteer Fire Company to recruit and maintain membership in their organization even if such recruitment would result in nonresident members making up more than forty-five per centum of the membership of their fire company
Summary of specific provision
Section 1. Amends subdivision 7 of Section 10-1006 of the village law by excluding the Village of Delanson Volunteer Fire Company from the requirement that forty-five per centum of their membership reside within the village
Section 2. Establishes an immediate effective date for this act.
Justification
Due to the rural nature of the village of Delanson, the Delanson Volunteer Fire Company seeks to recruit members from the surrounding town of Duanesburg in order to maintain adequate membership. Recruitment of members from the surrounding town would enable the Delanson Volunteer Fire Company to continue to offer critical first-response services to their community.
