Justification
Founded in 1862, the Starr Library in Rhinebeck has been serving patrons in the Mid-Hudson Valley for over 150 years. It is the oldest library in the Mid-Hudson library system and has an incredible history of being an important educational resource. Originally located in the Starr Institute Building in Rhinebeck, the library moved up to West Market Street in the 1970s. In 2005, they had outgrown their smaller
building and the Board of Trustees raised the funds to construct a new wing, which expanded their offerings to the community.
The creation of the Starr public library district is the next step forward for this important institution to continue its important work in providing educational resources for residents in the Rhinebeck community and throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley.
