BILL NUMBER:S1456 REVISED MEMO 01/29/2015
Title of bill
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to creating the "Brooklyn Nets" distinctive license plate program
Purpose
Provides for the creation of a distinctive "Brooklyn Nets" license plate.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 of this bill amends the Vehicle and Traffic law by adding a new section 404-x to direct the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue a distinctive "Brooklyn Nets" license plate to any person who applies for such a license plate.
Section 2 of this bill states that this act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, any rules and regulations required to implement the foregoing provisions of this act may be promulgated on or before such effective date.
Existing law
None.
Justification
The great Borough of Brooklyn has a great basketball team to support: the Brooklyn Nets. What better way to show our support by allowing motorists, upon request, to be issued a distinctive "Brooklyn Nets" license plate.
Even though the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has decided to offer this license plate currently, the DMV can decide not to issue a Brooklyn Nets license plate at any time. By codifying this in statute, it assures that the Brooklyn Nets license plate will always be available so New Yorkers may continue to show their pride for both their State, and the Brooklyn Nets.
