BILL NUMBER:S2811
Summary of provisions
Section 1 of the bill amends subdivision 1 of section 175-b of the town law, as amended by chapter 401 of the laws of 1996, to require the board of fire commissioners to provide absentee ballots for fire district elections.
Section 2 of the bill establishes the effective date.
Justification
Currently, the law allows fire districts to use absentee ballots at local option. This legislation would require fire districts to provide absentee ballots for fire district elections. This would ensure that every taxpayer has an equal opportunity to have their voice heard regarding matters pertaining to fire districts.
