Title of bill
An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to fees for hunting, fishing and trapping licenses
Purpose or general idea of bill
To allow active service members stationed outside of New York State to take fish as if they held a fishing license.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 11-0715 of the environmental conservation law is amended by adding that a member of the United States armed forces in active service, whether or not they are a resident of the state, who is not stationed within the state and has not been here longer than thirty days on leave or furlough.
Justification
Active service members are limited in the time they get to spend on leave, and even further limited by licensing requirements required to enjoy activities while visiting family within New York State. This bill will allow these active service members, who are in the state for no longer than thirty days, get a free fishing, hunting or trapping license. Further, this bill provides our active service men and women with an opportunity to enjoy fishing in times when they are not stationed ready to defend our country.
