BILL NUMBER:S3227
Title of bill
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of state route thirteen in the village of Camden as the "Sergeant Elisha R. Parker Veterans Memorial Highway"
Purpose
To memorialize a portion of state route thirteen in the village of Camden as the "Sergeant Elisha R. Parker Veterans Memorial Highway".
Summary of provisions
*Section one of the bill adds a new section 344-d to the highway law, which states that a portion of the state highway system will be designated as the "Sergeant Elisha R. Parker Veterans Memorial Highway".
*Section two states that the commissioner of transportation shall provide further installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated by section one of this act.
*Section three provides for an immediate effective date.
Justification
Sergeant Elisha "Eli" R. Parker, of Camden, lost his life while performing his duties as a combat engineer in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Born in Rome, New York, on June 25, 1984, Eli was a 2002 graduate of Camden Central School. He joined the Marine Corps immediately upon graduating from high school and was on his third tour of duty in Iraq. He loved his job; and it has been noted that he was born to be a Marine.
Eli's family and friends are proud of his accomplishments and will never forget his love for God, life, his country and fellow Marines.
The people of Camden request this designation to pay tribute to this brave man. For his service and sacrifice, Eli is without question - a hero.
