BILL NUMBER:S4109A

Title of bill

An act to amend the executive law, in relation to adding the 18 Mile Creek to the definition of inland waterways

Purpose

This legislation will include the 18 Mile Creek in Erie County as one of New York State's major creeks, and for it to be considered an inland waterway.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 amends paragraph (b) of subdivision 4 of section 911 of the executive law to include 18 Mile Creek among the state's major creeks.

Section 2 establishes an effective date.

Justification

18 Mile Creek plays an important role in Erie County. It is home to a number of resident and migratory species, and is a vital component of the Erie County ecosystem.

A healthy creek is important for groundwater quality, biodiversity, and recreation. Designation as an inland waterbody opens opportunities for funds for pollution clean-up and waterfront revitalization.
