BILL NUMBER:S4234A
Title of bill
An act in relation to legalizing, validating, ratifying and confirming a transportation contract of the Fairport central school district
Purpose
This bill would provide the Fairport Central School District $253,900, due to miscommunications and loss of contracts between the school district and the State Education Department in the 2013-14 School Year.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1: Legalizes, validates, ratifies, and confirms a transformation contract of $253,900 in connection with a transportation contract of the 2013-14 school year.
Section 2: Directs the Department of Education to consider the aforementioned contract for transportation aid.
Section 3: Sets the effective date
Justification
Fairport Central School District followed proper procedure in completing transportation contracts for the 2013-14 school year. Unfortunately, it was identified that this contract was not recorded at the State level and because of many transitions of staff at the district level, SED approvals were not tracked and the District has lost $253,900 in funding for 2013-14.
On September 8, 2014 the interim Assistant Superintendent for Business submitted the copies of the completed contracts which were found in their files signed by the acting superintendent. They believe that the contracts were sent in a timely fashion, however due to the many transitions at the time the district was unaware that there was no record of SED receiving the contracts in the summer of 2013.
Fiscal implications
To be determined.
