Title of bill

An act in relation to granting Tier I status in the New York state teachers' retirement system to Karen Siris

Purpose

This bill gives Tier I status to Karen Siris, who through no fault of her own did not become a member of the New York State and local employees' retirement system in 1972, when she began employment.

Justification

Karen Siris, has been an educator since 1972, working in New York City and Long Island schools. Her time in the public system allowed her the opportunity to opt-into Tier I Status due to Chapter 106 of the Laws of 2002, however she missed the deadline to properly file. This bill will allow Ms. Siris that opportunity.
