BILL NUMBER:S4679A
Title of bill
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating portions of the state highway system as the "Rochester Veterans Memorial Highway"
Purpose
To designate a portion of State Route 15A in the City of Rochester, County of Monroe, as the "Rochester Veterans Memorial Highway."
Summary of provisions
Section 1 - Amends the Highway Law, adding Section 344-d, designating the portion of State Route Fifteen A that runs from the intersection of Mt. Hope Avenue, continuing in a generally southerly direction, and terminating at the northerly line of the Erie Canal, as the "Rochester Veterans Memorial Highway."
Section 2 - Provides that this designation is of a ceremonial nature and does not change the official name of State Route Fifteen A.
Section 3 - Provides that this act shall take effect immediately.
Justification
This designation, along an approximately 0.8-mile stretch of our state highway system, serves as a small token of appreciation to all of our current and former United States Armed Forces services members, from all areas, including the fallen, the wounded, those unaccounted for and former prisoners of war, in humble recognition of their service, sacrifice and commitment to our country and the defense of our freedoms. This highway is a symbolic reminder of the cooperation and camaraderie felt by all American service members, past and present, hailing from the city of Rochester, all of Monroe County, New York, as well as all the other counties traversed by State Route 15A.
