BILL NUMBER:S4687A

Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Henrietta Veterans Memorial Highway"

Purpose

To designate a portion of state route 15A in the county of Monroe as the "Henrietta Veterans Memorial Highway."

Summary of provisions

Section 1. Amends the highway law to designate the portion of state route 15A that runs from the Brighton and Henrietta town line, in a generally southerly direction, to the Henrietta and Rush town line as the "Henrietta Veterans Memorial Highway."

Section 2. Provides for the signing and maintenance of this designation, and provides that this designation is of a ceremonial nature and does not change the official name of state route 15A.

Section 3. Provides that this act shall take effect immediately.

Justification

This designation, along an approximately 5.7 mile stretch of our state highway system, serves as a small token of appreciation to all of our current and former United States Armed Forces service members from all eras, including the fallen, the wounded, those unaccounted for, and former prisoners of war. This highway is designated in humble recognition of their service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country and the defense of our freedoms.

This highway is a symbolic reminder of the cooperation and camaraderie felt by all American service members, past and present, hailing from the Town of Henrietta and all of Monroe County. A resolution in support of this legislation has been passed by the Town of Henrietta
