BILL NUMBER:S4689
Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to requiring a service center for independent living to be located in the county of Ontario
Purpose
To include in the list of service centers for independent living eligible for Education Department funding.
Summary of provisions
Amends section 1124 of the education law to add the County of Ontario as a service center for independent living.
Justification
The state legislature recognizes the important work of independent living centers by appropriating funding for the 35 existing independent living centers. Because no center in Ontario County's is designated as a service center, Ontario County did not receive state funding. In order to provide expanded services for its disabled population, Ontario County seeks state identification and support for a service center for independent living.
