BILL NUMBER:S4728A
Title of bill
An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to hunting in Ontario county; and to amend chapter 144 of the laws of 2013 amending the environmental conservation law relating to authorizing hunting in the county of Ontario, in relation to making such provisions permanent
Purpose or general idea of bill
This bill would make permanent provisions permitting the use of rifles for big game hunting in Ontario County.
Existing law
Environmental Conservation Law Section 11-0907 currently allows the taking of deer by rifle in counties such as Albany, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Herkimer, Livingston, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Ontario, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, Wayne, Wyoming, Yates, and in a portion of Broome and Chautauqua.
Justification
Ontario County, by Resolution No. 196-2015, has requested the New York State Legislature to enact legislation that will allow the permanent use of rifles for big game hunting in all of Ontario County. Rifles have been successfully used for the past two big game hunting seasons in Ontario County. This legislation is necessary to allow the permanent use of rifles for big game hunting in all of Ontario County.
