BILL NUMBER:S4908A
Title of bill
An act to authorize the East Rockaway fire department to retroactively apply for a real property tax exemption for certain property in the village of East Rockaway, town of Hempstead, county of Nassau
Purpose
To authorize the East rockaway Fire Department to apply to the Nassau County Assessor for a retroactive real property tax exemption on a certain parcel of land.
Summary of provisions
The assessor of Nassau County is authorized to accept an application for real property tax exemption from the East Rockaway Fire Department pursuant to section 406 of the real property tax law. If accepted, the application shall be reviewed as if it had been received on or before the taxable status date established.
Justification
The East Rockaway Fire Department is a not-for-profit tax exempt organ- ization that owns property located in the Village of East Rockaway, NY. This property is used in conjunction with the fire services provided to the Village of East. Rockaway. The property is located 15 and 23 Front Street, East Rockaway, NY 11518. This legislation would provide the East Rockaway Fire Department with an exemption from real property taxes pursuant to 406 of the Real Property Tax Law a portion of the 2012/2013 assessment rolls and the 2013/2014 assessment rolls. The East Rockaway Fire Department has filed a timely application for tax exemption, and it has been approved, by the Nassau County Assessor. This legislation would alleviate the financial strain on the East Rockaway Fire Department by allowing the not-for-profit to apply for a real property tax exemption and thus allocate those monies toward better serving the community.
