Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to requiring the commissioner to post past common core and other state standardized examinations on the department's website
Purpose or general idea of bill
Under this law, the education commissioner is required to post all common core examinations and other examinations that have been administered to the students statewide on the department's website to provide parents, students and educators with materials that can be used to practice for future examinations. This practice is already used for regents examinations.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 305 of the Education Law is amended to direct the commissioner to post all common core examinations and other examinations which have been administered to students statewide on the department's website in order to provide parents, students and educators with materials which can be used to practice for future administration of such examinations.
Justification
This bill gives parents and educators the appropriate materials to help students study and be prepared for these examinations. By having practiced with past examinations, students can have a better understanding of the material that they need to study. Also, by practicing with previous examinations, students can familiarize themselves with the format of these tests and be more confident since they will know what to expect.
