BILL NUMBER:S5144
Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 433 of the laws of 1996 relating to creating the Wallkill public library district in the town of Shawangunk, Ulster county, in relation to the election of trustees of such district
Purpose
To correct an inconsistency with regard to the residency requirement for trustees of the Wallkill Public Library District.
Summary of provisions
Section 1:Amends Chapter 433 of the Laws of 1996 to provide that trustees of the Wallkill Public Library District must reside within the library district.
Section 2:Effective date.
Justification
This bill seeks to correct an inconsistency with regard to the residency requirement for trustees of the Wallkill Public Library District. The Wallkill Public Library District is defined as that part of the Wallkill School District in the Town of Shawangunk, Ulster County. Currently, however, the residency requirement for trustees of the library allows anyone who resides in the Wallkill School District to be a trustee. As the Wallkill School District covers portions of multiple towns, this allows individuals who live outside of the Wallkill Public Library District to be trustees. This legislation corrects this inconsistency.
Legislative history
New bill.
Fiscal implications
None.
Effective date
This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that any current trustee of the Wallkill Public Library District, who does not reside in the Wallkill Public Library District but does reside within the Wallkill School District, shall be authorized to serve the remainder of their current term of office.
