BILL NUMBER:S5898
Title of bill
An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in relation to adding a representative from WUFO Studios to the Michigan Street African Heritage Corridor commission
Purpose or general idea of bill
To increase the size of the Michigan Street African American Corridor commission from twelve members to thirteen members.
Summary of specific provisions
This bill amends Section 1 of Article 41.05 of the Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Law.
Justification
The site for the Michigan Street African American Corridor is rich in African American History. It was previously referred to as "The Michigan Street Preservation Area" and it attained national recognition for its unique cultural resources and historically significant buildings.
In order to expand public and private partnerships, the addition of Western New York's first African American female-owned radio station WUFO MIX 1080 AM, "The Spirit of Western New York," as a voting representative of the Commission, will encourage and strengthens the mission of the Corridor.
