Title of bill
An act to amend the general business law, in relation to prohibiting motor vehicle dealers from advertising lease specials for a limited number of in stock vehicles which meet the advertised vehicle specifications
Purpose or general idea of bill
The purpose of this bill is to make it so that any advertisements, made by a motor vehicle dealer advertising the amount of a lease, apply to all motor vehicles in stock that meet the specifications of the advertised vehicle at the time the advertisement was placed. Instead of the advertisement be restricted to a limited number of said vehicles.
Summary of provisions
The general business law is amended by adding a new section 349-f.
Justification
There are instances in which advertisements promote lease specials on specific vehicles, but the lease special only applies to one vehicle out of several in stock that meet the criteria. This legislation seeks to prohibit motor vehicle dealers from putting forth such deceiving advertisements and requires that the advertisements apply to all vehicles with the same specifications as the advertised vehicle in stock at the time the advertisement was promoted.
