Title of bill

An act to amend chapter 396 of the laws of 2012, amending the education law relating to services to out-of-state school districts by boards of cooperative educational services, in relation to making the provisions thereof permanent

Purpose

This bill would remove the expiration date to make permanent changes to chapter 396 of the laws of 2012 that allow boards of cooperative educational services to contract with out-of-state school districts to provide services.

Summary of provisions

This act shall take effect immediately and have no expiration date.

Justification

Since 2012, boards of cooperative educational services have had the opportunity to contract with out-of-state school districts to provide services. The State of New York wisely extended this opportunity to generate new revenue that also offers savings to taxpayers throughout the State.

This authority is currently scheduled to expire on July 1, 2019. This legislation will ensure that boards of cooperative educational services are permanently able to generate revenue by contracting with out-of-state school districts to provide services
