Title of bill
An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting certain court reporters peace officer status
Summary of specific provisions
Section 2.10 of the Criminal Procedure Law is amended by adding a new subdivision 84.
Justification
Senior court reporters are entrusted in making a true and accurate record of trial proceedings. They transcribe records of Civil Court cases and Criminal felony trials cases across the State. They are responsible for keeping the official court transcripts and can provide copy of the trial to judges and attorneys on record. Court reporters are an integral part of the courtroom and work with judges, court officers and court clerks ---all who are designated Peace Officers. It is time court reporters are treated with the same peace officer status.
