Title of bill

An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring the metropolitan transportation authority to grant preference to former private bus company employees

Purpose

To require the metropolitan transportation authority to grant employees of private bus companies a preference for employment.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 of this bill amends the public authorities law by adding a new section 1265-c which states that, notwithstanding any other provision of law, when hiring, the authority shall grant the employees of private bus companies a preference for employment.

Section 2 of this bill states that this act shall take effect immediately.

Justification

Currently, former private bus company employees who were displaced by the MTA's acquisition of private bus companies to form the MTA Bus Company, do not received any hiring preference over other potential candidates.

This bill would require the metropolitan transportation authority to grant this such preference.
