Title of bill
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to establishing a task force on veteran employment opportunities; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof
Purpose
This bill establishes a task force to study veteran employment opportunities.
Summary of specific provisions
Section one of the bill establishes a new article 17-C to the executive law, establishing a task force on veteran employment opportunities.
Section two of the bill provides that this act shall take effect immediately, and shall be deemed repealed ten years after such date.
Justification
In February 2016, the NYS Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs held a Round Table event to focus on Veteran Employment Opportunities. The event was extremely well attended, enlightening and informative. This bill establishes a task force, which will be charged with holding annual public hearings and making recommendations to the legislature, regarding ways that the state can assist veterans in finding and maintaining meaningful employment opportunities. Much like the round table, this task force will be comprised of stake holders within state government, but will also include legislative appointees.
Prior legislative history
New Bill.
Effective date
This act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed expired and repealed ten years after such date. FISCAL IMPACT : Minimal, as task force members shall receive no compensation for their services, but will be allowed their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their functions.
