Title of bill
An act to authorize Mr. Ronald Epstein to file a late application for an enhanced STAR real property tax exemption
Purpose
Allows the assessor of the Town of Saugerties in Ulster County to accept and review the real property STAR exemption application of Mr. Ronal Epstein as though it had been timely submitted.
Summary of provisions
Section one of this bill would allow Mr. Ronald Epstein to file his application for an enhanced STAR real property tax exemption with the assessor of the Town of Saugerties for 2013 tax roll.
Section two provides for an immediate effective date.
Justification
Mr. Epstein was unable to file his Enhanced STAR application in a timely manner due to the illness and hospitalization of his now deceased wife. This legislation would correct an unforeseen injustice in current law which resulted in a significant and unanticipated financial hardship for Mr. Epstein in the midst of his grief and restore the exemption he was otherwise entitled to receive.
Legislative history
2014: A.8951 referred to Real Property Taxation
Fiscal implications
None to the State. There would be a modest impact to the Saugerties Central School District as funds are restored to Mr. Epstein.
Effective date
This act shall take effect
