Title of bill
An act in relation to authorizing David Poplawski, a former employee of the State University of New York NY Network, to retain membership in the optional retirement program
Purpose & justification
SUNY's New York Network was absorbed into the Office of General Services (OGS). All the employees that were brought over to OGS were offered the opportunity to maintain their membership in the optional retirement system (TIAA CREF). Employee David Poplawski, through no fault of his own, was not absorbed into OGS and instead was hired by Tax and Finance. He then had to join the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System (ERS), putting him into Tier VI rather than Tier IV though he had been enrolled since 1984. This bill extends the same opportunity that was given his colleagues via program legislation.
