Title of bill
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing the town of Lewisboro, in the county of Westchester, to establish a speed limit of not less than twenty-five miles per hour on town roads
Purpose
Authorizes the town of Lewisboro, in the county of Westchester, to establish a twenty-five miles per hour speed limit on town roads.
Summary of provisions
Section one amends section 1662-a of the vehicle traffic law regarding speed limits in certain towns, to allow the town board of Lewisboro, in the county of Westchester, to establish speed limits not less than twenty-five miles per hour throughout the town or within designated areas of such town.
Section 2 establishes the effective date.
Justification
In recent years, the town of Lewisboro has experienced an overflow of pedestrian and bicycle traffic. While the town board encourages a healthy lifestyle and an environment friendly mode of travel, the town's roads are very narrow with many blind curves. These roads wind throughout residential and scenic lake areas, which are popular travel routes for pedestrians and bicyclists. This bill will allow the Lewisboro Town Board the authority to reduce the speed limit to ensure the safety of all those traveling on the Town's roadways.
