Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 533 of the laws of 2011 relating to creating the Norwood public library in the towns of Potsdam and Stockholm, county of St. Lawrence, in relation to the requirements on a petition for a person to be placed on the ballot for election of a trustee
Purpose
To change the number of required signatures on a petition for a person to be placed on the ballot for election of a trustee from 50 to 25 signatures.
Summary of provisions
Section one amends subdivision 3 of section 2 of Chapter 533 of the laws 2011, relating to creating the Norwood public library, changing the number of required signatures on a petition for a person to be placed on the ballot for election of a trustee from 50 to 25 voters.
Section two provides for an immediate effective date.
Justification
This legislation has been requested by the Norwood Public Library Board. The library is extremely small and is located in a sparsely populated, rural district - making obtaining 50 signatures very difficult. Larger, nearby libraries require only 25 signatures. This legislation will adjust the required signatures to 25, which is more realistic for interested parties.
