Title of bill
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the location of the beginning of that portion of the state highway system to be designated as the "Southern Adirondack Trail"
Purpose or general idea of bill
This bill would change the starting location of the "Southern Adirondack Trail" to state route 28 at the northernmost village line of the village of Herkimer.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1: Section 434-gg. Portion of the state highway system to be designated as the "Southern Adirondack Trial". All that portion of the state highway system beginning at the northernmost village line of the village of Herkimer, town Herkimer, continuing north on state route 28 through the village of Newport and through the village of Poland instead beginning of the intersection of the New York state thruway.
Section 2: Effective date
Justification
Due to the strict signage regulations of the Scenic Byway guideline, the Village of Herkimer has asked to change the starting point of the "Southern Adirondack Trail" from the NYS Thruway to the northernmost end of the Herkimer village line. This will help businesses install proper signs and local companies to promote their businesses. Moving the starting point of the "Southern Adirondack Trail" will help maximize the Village's ability to market its assets, promote local businesses and expand economic development for a distressed area in upstate New York.
