        AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law,  in  relation  to  corporate
          defendants
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 600.20 of the criminal procedure law is amended  to
     2  read as follows:
     3  § 600.20  Corporate defendants; prosecution thereof.
     4    At  all  stages  of  a  criminal action, from the commencement thereof
     5  through sentence, a corporate defendant must appear by  counsel.    Upon
     6  failure  of appearance at the time such defendant is required to enter a
     7  plea to the accusatory instrument, the court may enter a plea of  guilty
     8  and  impose  sentence.    Upon finding a corporate defendant liable, the
     9  district attorney may simultaneously file a civil judgment against  such
    10  corporate defendant.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
