What's happening
This bill extends certain Nassau County real property tax assessment provisions, moving their repeal date from 2018 to 2020.
Why it matters
Extending these provisions gives Nassau County two more years to manage property tax assessments under the current rules, potentially providing stability for homeowners and local governments while longer-term reforms are considered.
Delaying the repeal of these sections helps avoid abrupt changes to the assessment and appeals process, which might otherwise disrupt tax bills or create confusion for property owners and administrators.
The extension could impact budget planning for schools, municipalities, and taxpayers by maintaining the existing framework for property value challenges and assessment procedures until 2020.
