What's happening
This bill expands the definition of "immediate family" for private firearm sales to include siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren.
Why it matters
Broadens who qualifies for the "immediate family" exemption. in private firearm transfers, making it easier for more relatives—like siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren—to transfer guns to each other without going through a licensed dealer.
Could significantly increase the number of lawful private firearm transfers. that do not require background checks or dealer involvement, potentially reducing paperwork and transfer costs for families.
May raise concerns or debates about oversight and safety. , since expanding the exemption could make it harder for authorities to track firearms or ensure that individuals receiving them are legally eligible to own them.
