What's happening

The bill updates language regarding patient transportation, allowing individuals to request same-gender staff accompaniment within staffing limits.

Why it matters

  1. Expands patient rights. by allowing all individuals, not just females, to request same-gender staff during transportation—addressing privacy, safety, and comfort for a broader group, including non-binary or transgender patients.

  2. Modernizes language. in the law, replacing outdated gender-specific terms with more inclusive language, which may help reduce discrimination or assumptions about patient needs.

  3. Balances patient preference with operational limits. by making the accommodation dependent on staffing availability, acknowledging both individual dignity and practical constraints faced by facilities.

  • Mental hygiene facilities and transportation staff
