What's happening

This bill extends Greene County's authority to impose an additional mortgage recording tax until December 1, 2020.

Why it matters

  1. Maintains a revenue stream for Greene County. By allowing the county to continue collecting the additional mortgage recording tax, this extension helps fund local government services, infrastructure, or other county priorities that may rely on these revenues.

  2. Affects homebuyers and real estate transactions. Individuals and businesses purchasing real estate in Greene County will continue to pay this extra tax, which could slightly increase the overall cost of property transactions.

  3. Provides fiscal stability and planning time. The extension gives county officials certainty about this revenue source for two more years, allowing for more stable budgeting and planning for county programs and obligations.
