What's happening

This bill requires child day care providers in New York to receive training on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma-informed care.

Why it matters

Expands training requirements to include adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma-informed care. , meaning child care providers will need to understand how early trauma can affect children's behavior and development, potentially improving how they respond to and support kids facing difficulties.

  2. Mandates that even legally exempt providers (with the exception of close relatives) must receive this training. , which broadens the scope of who is required to be educated about trauma, increasing the likelihood that children in various care settings receive support from informed adults.

  3. Aims to foster resiliency in children by equipping caregivers with skills to nurture and respond effectively to trauma. , which could have long-term benefits for children’s emotional well-being and educational outcomes.

  4. Empowers the Office of Children and Family Services to set and enforce these training standards. , giving the agency flexibility to update regulations and ensure that training content stays current with best practices in trauma-informed care.
