What's happening
This bill raises the funding cap from $65 million to $90 million for capital projects at state-supported schools for blind and deaf students.
Why it matters
Expanding the funding cap allows for more or larger capital projects. this could mean more extensive renovations, expansions, or construction at state-supported schools for blind and deaf students, potentially improving accessibility, safety, and educational opportunities.
The increased cap may address backlogs or unmet needs. in facility maintenance or modernization that were previously delayed or scaled down due to the lower limit, directly impacting students’ learning environments.
By specifying that the capital plan must prioritize health and safety and provide detailed reporting to oversight committees,. the bill aims to ensure transparency and that the new funds are used for the most urgent and essential improvements, which matters for accountability and public trust.
