What's happening
This bill allows individuals to obtain copies of their recorded personal medical information from insurers for a fee of up to one dollar per page.
Why it matters
Enhances personal control over medical data. By granting individuals the right to access their recorded medical information held by insurers, this bill supports transparency and empowers people to review, manage, or share their own health records as needed.
Sets a clear cost limit. The bill caps the fee for obtaining copies at one dollar per page, which aims to prevent insurers from charging excessive or arbitrary fees, making access more affordable and predictable.
Applies to a broad range of entities. The requirement to provide access covers insurance institutions, agents, and insurance-support organizations, closing potential loopholes and ensuring that individuals can request their information no matter which entity holds it.
