What's happening

This bill requires all New York state websites to update statutes within ten business days of any statutory amendments.

Why it matters

  1. Improves public access to current laws. By ensuring statutes are updated quickly on official websites, the bill reduces the risk of the public, attorneys, and businesses relying on outdated legal information.

  2. Increases government accountability and transparency. The requirement applies not just to state-run websites but also to those managed by third parties on behalf of agencies, closing loopholes and ensuring all official online sources are accurate.

  3. Standardizes update timelines across all state entities. This measure prevents inconsistent practices among different departments or agencies and sets a clear, enforceable expectation for timely legislative updates.

  4. Supports better compliance and decision-making. With more reliable and current statutory information available online, individuals and organizations can make better-informed choices and more easily comply with the law.
