What's happening
This bill requires insurers to give written notice of premium rate changes at least sixty days before they take effect.
Why it matters
Gives policyholders more time to plan for increased costs. By requiring insurers to notify customers of premium changes at least sixty days in advance, individuals and businesses will have a better opportunity to adjust their budgets or shop for alternative coverage before higher rates take effect.
Promotes greater transparency in insurance pricing. The bill ensures that policyholders are not caught off guard by sudden rate hikes, fostering a more transparent relationship between insurers and their customers.
May improve consumer decision-making. With advanced notice, consumers can more effectively compare insurance options, negotiate terms, or switch providers if they find the proposed rate increases unacceptable, potentially leading to more competitive pricing in the market.
