What's happening

This bill ensures that money raised by volunteer ambulance companies through fundraising will not affect their eligibility for state funding.

Why it matters

  1. Protects Volunteer Funding Efforts. By excluding fundraising proceeds from state aid calculations, volunteer ambulance companies can raise additional funds without risking reductions in their state support, encouraging more robust local fundraising efforts.

  2. Enables Better Local Services. Volunteer ambulance companies can use money raised from community donations and events to improve equipment, training, or facilities, supplementing (rather than replacing) state funding and potentially leading to higher-quality emergency response in their communities.

  3. Prevents Unintended Penalties. The bill ensures that successful fundraising is not “punished” by reduced state aid, removing a disincentive for volunteers to seek community support and promoting financial stability for these essential public safety organizations.
