What's happening
This bill requires public administrators to notify local government officials before disposing of historic or older intestate properties.
Why it matters
Aims to protect historic and older properties. by ensuring that local governments are alerted before any intestate property (property of someone who dies without a will) that is historic or over 75 years old is sold or disposed of, giving communities a chance to intervene or comment.
Increases transparency and community involvement. in the fate of potentially significant local properties, allowing municipal councils, boards of trustees, and landmark boards to be informed and possibly take action to preserve heritage sites.
Could slow or alter the disposal process. for certain properties, providing extra time for local officials to assess the historical or cultural value of buildings before they are lost or repurposed, potentially preserving neighborhood character and local history.
