What's happening

This bill requires motorcycle insurance policies to inform policyholders that no-fault insurance does not apply and underinsured motorist coverage is available.

Why it matters

  1. Raises consumer awareness. by requiring insurers to clearly inform motorcycle policyholders that typical no-fault insurance protections (like automatic medical coverage after an accident) do not apply to motorcycles, addressing a common misconception.

  2. Highlights the availability and importance of underinsured motorist coverage. , encouraging riders to consider extra protection in case they are injured by a driver with insufficient insurance—potentially reducing their own financial risk.

  3. Explicitly warns that basic legal coverage may be inadequate. , noting that minimum required insurance ($25,000) may not cover all damages, prompting riders to make more informed decisions about their insurance needs.

  4. May impact insurance purchasing behavior. , leading to more motorcycle owners opting for higher or additional coverage, thus potentially reducing uncompensated losses after accidents.
