What's happening
This bill allows town supervisors to quarterly review justice court dockets to ensure collected fines and fees are properly turned over.
Why it matters
Increases Local Oversight. By allowing town supervisors to regularly review justice court dockets, the bill provides an added layer of oversight, which could help prevent mismanagement or mishandling of public funds at the local level.
Improves Accountability. The quarterly review process ensures that fines and fees collected by town justices are actually delivered to the proper officials, reducing the risk of errors, delays, or potential fraud.
Protects Public Trust. Regular and transparent checks on court financial activity can help maintain or restore public confidence in the integrity of local justice systems, reassuring residents that financial laws are being followed.
