What's happening
This bill requires health insurance policies in New York to cover annual chlamydia screenings for both men and women.
Why it matters
Expanding insurance coverage to include annual chlamydia screenings for both men and women could help identify more cases early. , potentially reducing the spread of infection and long-term health complications like infertility.
By mandating coverage regardless of gender, the bill addresses existing gaps where men often do not receive regular screening. , helping to normalize and de-stigmatize sexual health care for all individuals.
Insurance plans may still apply deductibles and coinsurance to these screenings. , meaning individuals could have some out-of-pocket costs, but the screenings would be guaranteed as a covered benefit, increasing access for more people.
