What's happening
This bill requires New York's statewide automated child welfare information system to be able to store images and documents.
Why it matters
Improves record-keeping and case management. By allowing images and documents to be stored directly in the child welfare information system, caseworkers can maintain more complete, accurate, and easily accessible records about children and families, which supports better decision-making.
Facilitates coordination and continuity. Digital document storage enables faster and safer sharing of essential information between agencies, caseworkers, and authorized partners, reducing gaps or delays when children move or cases are transferred.
Supports oversight and accountability. The ability to store and retrieve images and documents can help monitor compliance with policies, provide clearer audit trails, and strengthen investigations into child welfare practices or incidents.
